Not long now until the 2019 netball season kicks off, we're sure you're as excited as us to get back to netball and reconnect with the Nelson Netball community. It's going to be an extremely busy season so keep an eye on our website, Facebook page and our App for all the latest news.
It all starts this weekend with our Geraldine Hodgson Festival, our pre-season festival founded by our hugely respected Patroness. The festival is in its 30th year and over 60 teams are registered to play. Food and coffee will be available onsite so you can enjoy the day.
The day starts with a challenger game at 9:15am for the 8th position in the Premier grade between Jacks Sportswise and Motueka High School A. This year the Premier Grade has been extended from 6 teams to 8 teams to create more opportunities for players and umpires at this level. The Premier competition begins on Thursday 2 May, Senior and College Netball starts on 27 April and Junior Netball on 4 May.
Important dates coming up:
8 April - Club information evening - be sure to attend to be updated with the season ahead and across all information and change.
See the article below for further dates and details.
We look forward to seeing you at the courts on Saturday.
The Team at Nelson Netball
Sadly we will be saying farewell to Lindsay Filiata from her role as Centre Manager at the end of this week. Lindsay has been in the role since October 2016 and during that time she has made many changes that have benefited our entire netball community. Lindsay’s passion for netball and the development of pathways for players, coaches and umpires has been a great asset for the Centre and we will be sad to see her go. We thank her for all her good work and input and wish her all the very best in her future endeavours. She won’t be a stranger and we will see her coaching and umpiring through the season.
While the board recruits a new Centre Manager, Arnella King will be Acting Centre Manager and both Arnella and Shar will be working additional hours through this transition period. Along with additional helpers and the Board we will together ensure the 2019 netball season gets off to a great start, beginning with the Geraldine Hodgson Festival this weekend.
The Board has commenced a recruitment process to recruit a new Centre Manager and the role is being advertised through Seek and TradeMe and will also feature on job boards through Netball NZ, Sport NZ and Sport Tasman.
Julie Baxendine, Chair on behalf of the Board of Nelson Netball Centre.
